Riley Tanner is thirteen. She lives with her mom and grandmother near Otis Air Force Base on Cape Cod. Her mom is a crew chief in the Air Force. Her dad was in the Marines. She never got to meet him.

She’s also juggling basketball, a crush she can’t quite hide, and teachers pushing her to do better work. In the midst of it all, she’s finding that showing up for someone else often gives back more than it asks.
